An IT Support Specialist with experience supporting Windows OS + Apps and Office is required for a Barrister Chambers in Central London on a permanent basis.

Job Summary:

IT Support Specialist responsible for assisting the IT Manager in implementing and maintaining IT systems in a busy Barristers Chambers based in central London. Day to day involves fielding user support calls and emails, hardware/software installation and upgrades, new PC builds, rebuilds etc. You will interact with barristers and staff on a daily basis both in person and via email/phone so the highest level of presentation, communication and professionalism are required.

  • Able to install Windows from scratch
  • Microsoft Windows 7/8/10 – set-up and troubleshoot
  • Microsoft Office 2007-2016 & 365– set-up and troubleshoot
  • Reinstalling Operating Systems with imaging software
  • Video Conferencing setup and troubleshooting

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Support

  • To provide Helpdesk and Desktop support on all IT related issues, answering support queries via phone and email, logging them on the helpdesk management system and visiting users at their desks where required
  • Support members and staff in the use of computer equipment by providing the necessary training and advice and installation support of Windows/Apple Mac desktop and web applications
  • Provide technical support and assistance to users of mobile phones/IPad/notebooks and laptops
  • Provide support to members and staff in relation to Mitel telephone system and LEX Case/Diary management system

Network Administration

  • Assist with administration of email servers for chambers-wide email and for management of email handling devices and mobile phones
  • Operational support for internal computer systems (Windows 7, 8 & 10, but also Apple Mac OSX Mavericks to Sierra)
  • Provide maintenance of network hardware and software to ensure smooth operation
  • Assist with maintaining the operating system and security software utilised on the network, including the addition of new users to the network and establishment of rights and privileges and maintenance of Trend Micro Security Systems
  • Liaison with local IT 3rd parties on an ad-hoc basis

System Development

  • Participation in software and hardware local roll-out projects (e.g. new application deployment, technical upgrades.)
  • Keep abreast of developments of existing technology e.g. potential upgrades

Personal Development

  • To ensure you obtain appropriate training in order to provide support at the appropriate level for the systems in use at Chambers
  • To keep abreast of developments in technology in order to make appropriate recommendations to the IT Manager

Any other day to day tasks as reasonably requested.

Performance Measured by:

  • Knowledge and expertise of Microsoft & MAC operating systems & software packages
  • Ability to identify potential problems and recommend solutions to those problems
  • Ability to work with initiative, maintaining a flexible and responsible attitude, both personally and within the department and chambers
  • Speed and Efficiency in dealing with work – able to prioritise
  • Good communication with users; Good team working
  • Positive feedback from members and staff
  • Personal development and contribution to the overall business objectives of chambers
  • Good attendance and timekeeping

Hours:                         40 hours per week plus lunch hour. 10am to 7pm Monday to Friday

Reports to:                 IT Manager
